LITTLE GOOSE NEST preschool

“BUT JESUS SAID, ‘LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME TO ME, AND DO NOT STOP THEM; FOR IT IS TO SUCH AS THESE THAT THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN BELONGS.’” — MATTHEW 19:14

Preschoolers are a unique and wonderful gift from God and we believe that they are an integral part of our church family. Our preschool ministry seeks to nurture the growth of preschoolers and offer love and support to their families during these important years.

Through our ministry to preschoolers, we desire to provide children with a loving and caring environment so they can learn of God, the wonderful world God created, and God’s love for them. Our mission is to share the message of God’s love, and through this message develop in children a young faith that can grow in the knowledge of God and God’s special plans for each life.

Registration usually opens for current 3-year-olds and their siblings each February. All other rising 3 and 4-year-olds can apply in March. Applications can be picked up in the church office.

The Little Goose nest Preschool is meeting Tues-Thurs and is truly one blessed nest under the leadership of Karen Davey, Nancy Barrow, and wonderful substitutes.

CHILDREN

CHILDREN

"I HAVE NO GREATER JOY THAN THIS, TO HEAR THAT MY CHILDREN ARE WALKING IN THE TRUTH." — 3 JOHN 1:4

It brings great joy to be able to share the love of God with a child. Our children’s ministry seeks to join with families in the life-changing work of encouraging children as they grow in their knowledge and faith.

Our ministry to children and their families desires to provide a place where children can explore God’s world, ask questions, express their faith, and feel loved. Our goal is to provide a warm and inviting place for our children, so that they will grow in their understanding of God and develop a personal faith that will last a lifetime.

Our youth ministry covers children from 6th grade to 12th grade and is focused on providing a welcoming community for students where they can develop in their relationship with God and with each other. We seek to nurture the spiritual lives of students through Bible study, discipleship, fellowship, and worship.

MUSIC

music

“MUSIC CAN TOUCH THE DEEPEST PART OF OUR SOULS. WHEN WE HUNGER FOR GOD, MUSIC CAN LEAD US INTO WORSHIP. WHEN WE TRY TO HIDE FROM GOD, MUSIC CAN MELT THE WALLS WE HAVE BUILT UP AROUND US.”

Music and worship are an important part of the life of our church. We have a strong desire to serve God through music and to lead others to grow in their faith through worship.

During our worship services, music is presented as an offering to God, not just by our choirs and soloists, but by the entire congregation. As a family of faith, we lift our voices to God in hymns, anthems, and a wide range of special musical selections.

Our music ministry offers something for everyone. If you are passionate about music, or just want to try out something new, you are invited to join us in serving God through music. The heart of our ministry is our Adult Choir, which leads the congregation in worship each Sunday morning. We also offer choirs for all ages of children, from preschool through sixth grade.  Opportunities are also available for ensembles, soloists, instrumentalists, and handbells.

MISSIONS

Missions

“Christ has no body now but yours; no hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes with which he looks with compassion on this world. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.” — St. Teresa of Avila

We have a heart for missions! We believe mission involvement is the natural result of a real faith. When our hearts are filled by God, we naturally want to share God’s love with others.

We believe that every person has a mission and their own place to serve. Finding their place of service and becoming the presence of Christ to others is the first step in building the kind of relationships that will take Christ’s love to the world.

Following Christ’s command to “Go therefore and make disciples,” our church supports missions through our praying, our serving, our going, and our giving. Through summer mission trips, family mission projects, and local mission organizations, our congregation works to serve and share with people and communities in need.

Check out the links below to see how we are involved in our local community, our state, and our world. Join us in being the hands and feet of Christ to a world in need.

WAYS TO SERVE THE CHURCH AND OTHERS

In our service to others, God calls us to follow the model of Jesus who came not to be served, but to serve others. Our love for people is a central way of sharing God's love with the world. We seek to love others in our daily walk, through volunteer opportunities, and in various mission partnerships with other Christians.

Opportunities to serve at Edenton Baptist Church include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Baptist Men

  • Woman's Missionary Union

  • Boys and Girl's Club volunteer opportunities

  • Book Bag Buddies

  • Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry & Clothing Closet

  • Occasional mission project and trips

  • Cooking Wednesday night fellowship meals

  • Fellowship-to-Go-delivery of meals to Senior Adults

  • Teaching and leading in Christian Education

  • Serving on church committees and serving as a deacon if nominated

CHURCH EVENTS

CHURCH EVENTS

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” -Matthew 18:20

We believe that fellowship does not just happen on Sunday mornings, but that there are many ways for us to join together with our church family and with the community to share the love of Christ.

Fall

BLESSING OF BACKPACKS

Our church works very closely with the local school system to provide support with resources and volunteers for school events as needed. Another way we honor our members who are students and teachers is a service that ends with blessing backpacks and prayer for our students and teachers before they start back to school.

Trunk or Treat

During the Halloween season, youth and adult volunteers provide games, candy, prizes and fellowship to the children in the community through decorated trunks, tables, and trailers.

Thanksgiving Meal

A very special and long standing tradition of our church is to have a Thanksgiving meal together as a church. This is usually done the Sunday evening prior to Thanksgiving. The church provides the meal, and members share a desert. After the meal, a slide show of pictures helps us reflect on the life of our church and be thankful for all that Christ has done to help us share his light with the world.

Christmas

Advent Wreath WORKSHOP

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, each year early in December we hold an advent wreath workshop. All of the greenery, candles, and other materials are provided by the church and members young and old have a great time designing their wreaths and preparing our hearts for the advent season.

Christmas eve Candlelight service

We host a traditional Christmas Eve service that ends with lighting candles and singing “Silent Night”.

Winter

Church Basketball

For children in grades 3-12, we offer girls, boys, and co-ed teams and play against other church teams in the community. The most important aspect of this league is for the young people to enjoy playing and promote good Christian fellowship.

Ash wednesday

We celebrate the beginning of Lent with a service where ash is used to make the sign of the cross on your forehead.

Spring

Easter Egg Hunt

Our church does an egg hunt every year for the children with food, games, face painting and other fun.

Holy Week Services

Our community does a week of services and noon time meals in preparation for a celebration of Christ’s resurrection. Our church also does a Maundy Thursday service reflecting on the death of Christ that ends in darkness.

Parent Child Dedication

We hold this service every year on Mother’s Day and infants and children are blessed, dedicated, and welcomed into the life of the church.

Summer

Graduate Sunday

One Sunday early in June, we honor our members who are graduating from high school, college, or with an advanced degree. Often our graduates will speak and share how their walk with Christ will guide their next steps in life.

Vacation Bible School

Open to children ages 4-6th Grade, children and their adult volunteers enjoy a week of fun music, Bible study, crafts, games and snacks set to a theme. Bible school is in the mornings only one week every June. We are always looking for adult helpers to ensure this week runs smoothly, and anyone who participates young and old comes away blessed!

Waterfront Worship

During the COVID 19 Pandemic, we started having worship services outside down at Edenton’s beautiful, historic waterfront park. That tradition continues with waterfront worship services once at month during the summer. We typically enjoy a church picnic after one of these services as well as another way to fellowship.
